One of the most common questions we are asked is how often should I bath my pet? Unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. It depends on the individual and if they have any underlying skin conditions which require management with shampoo therapy.
If there is an active skin infection, your vet may recommend a Dermcare medicated shampoo such as Malaseb or Pyohex Shampoo. During an active skin infection, we recommend bathing twice weekly until the infection resolves or as recommended by your veterinarian.
If your pet has been diagnosed with allergic skin disease, bathing weekly-fortnightly (depending on if it is allergy season for that pet) is beneficial for removing allergens and pollens from the skin and coat.
If your pet has no underlying skin conditions, you can bath as required to clean the skin and coat. We recommend using a non-medicated shampoo such as Natural Shampoo as it is hypoallergenic and suitable for pets with normal or sensitive skin. Bathing has a lot of benefits, not only does bathing create some special bonding time with your pet it also allows you to massage them and check for any new lumps or bumps that may need to be checked by your vet.
And don’t forget the conditioner! Aloveen Oatmeal Intensive Conditioner moisturises and leaves your pet smelling amazing and best of all it is a leave on conditioner so no need to get wet again. Aloveen Oatmeal Intensive Conditioner can be applied to a dry coat when your pet needs a freshen up in between baths.
